Beach 2011

We had another great beach trip this year! Carter loved the ocean, the sand, the pool, the golf cart, and the fact that she got to spend a week with grandparents and cousin George. A good time was had by all, and everyone arrived safely home in one piece!

We started the trip in Mobile again this year at the Battle House hotel. The rooftop pool is always a good decision!

I can't believe we are 4 weeks away from the end of school. What a busy year it has been! Carter has loved going to her "school" every day. I hate that I haven't had a lot of time to keep up this blog. I hope to put up pictures soon from the last 9 months. Carter's birthday was last week, and she had a great time.

My lack of posting is a direct result of school starting back. Busy, busy all of the time. Thankfully, I absolutely LOVE my job, so I don’t mind the crazy, hectic days.

Carter has been busy as well! She is learning so much in her little “school” everyday. I believe the Terrible Two’s have made the debut at our home. Hissy fits occur on a daily basis:

Yes folks, this is the Handy Manny toolbox. Cousin George has one (because he is a boy), and I knew Carter enjoyed playing with it at their house. Then she spotted it at WalMart, and it was obvious that she wanted her own. It could have gotten ugly. Thank you Mimi for buying it for her along with some really cool and fun toys for the bathtub. She loves them all, but as you can see, the tools are her favorites. For now…

We have had lots of changes in the Kulp house – all good changes, maybe just not easy changes. This past week has been busy, busy! I started a new job at the high school, and we have had orientation this week. So… my summer is officially over. We took a little trip over to Taylor Saturday night with the Menetres. The catfish was yummy and the kiddos did great!!

We had the best vacation this year with the whole family – Nonna, Pal, Bailey, Gracie, and George! We didn’t see any oil until our last day so we were able to enjoy the beach – although, we spent most of our time at the pool. Luke, Carter, and I stayed Friday night in Mobile at the Battle House Hotel. It was fabulous.

Carter (somehow) got herself stuck in a box that I keep some of her toys in – she is so tiny. Of course, I had to take some pictures before I helped her out… mean Mommy! She was not happy! At least she could get her fingers in her mouth…

The First Birthday Party

We had Carter’s birthday party on April 24th. We had lots of family and a few friends over for refreshments and birthday cake. I had lots of help getting ready for her big day – couldn’t have done it with out all of the help!! The weather had been horrible all day. A couple of hours before the party, the sun came out, and the afternoon was beautiful! Carter is so blessed to have so many people come to wish her a happy birthday.

The first birthday came and went just like any other day I suppose. It’s hard to believe that this year and all its’ firsts is over. I write this over a month later so I am over the initial shock. As I said in an earlier post, it has been a wonderful year. Almost makes you think that you could easily have another one any time – almost… not quite though.

Well, here we are! I can't believe an entire year has gone by since our precious Carter joined us. It has certainly been a happy year filled with new experiences. I have lots I could say, but I think pictures are more appropriate. No one wants to hear a mother's sappiness. I will say that I am blessed to have a healthy, happy daughter!

Playing Catch Up

Well, let's see. Where do I begin? It's been a long month here in the Kulp house. Carter, who has never really been sick had the stomach virus at the end of February. If you know me, you know I am terrified of vomit. It is a true phobia, and it makes me sweat a little thinking about it now. For everyone who told me I would feel differently when my own child vomited, I say you are VERY wrong. I feel the same panic even when it's her. But, we made it through, and then she ended up making a quick trip to the ER for IV fluids for dehydration. She bounced right back and went on about her busy little life. A couple of days later, I get the stomach virus. Back to panic mode - I would rather go through 17 hours of labor again than 1 hour of the stomach virus. I also ended up getting an IV of fluids. Thankfully, Nonna was able to take Carter for 4 days to her house while I recovered (slowly). Then it was Nonna's turn with the virus. I think Carter's Grandoc referred to her as "Typhoid Carter". So true. We have had nice weather lately, and have finally been able to get out of the house. I have been on Spring Break this week. Don't think PCB, think painting and cleaning...

Carter is now crawling and holding her own bottle. She'll be 9 months old on Friday, and has two teeth on the bottom. Again, where has the time gone?

George isn't sure about Santa - Carter is obviously too young to have an opinion. It's hard for me to believe that she will be 8 months in a few days, and George will be 1 year in a few weeks!! We took Carter to the Tupelo Christmas parade. I think she enjoyed it - even though you can't tell from the pictures. It was extremely cold so she had to stay pretty bundled up. I hate that the parade is now during the day. It was so much more fun when it was at night - to me anyway.

Our first taste of "meat" (if that is what you call it) didn't go so well. Carter HATED it. We have now tried ham, turkey, chicken, and yes - beef. She gave all of them a big fat NO.

We spent Thanksgiving in Memphis this year. We were able to spend time with all of the Kulp cousins and the Hollingsworth clan. Carter was extremely entertained by her cousins. Of course, the food was wonderful, and we all ate way too much.

We have been pretty busy this month. Football has occupied every Saturday. Thankfully, Carter likes watching it with her Daddy. We (Carter ) got her 6 month shots. She is sitting (basically) on her own, eating baby food twice a day, and sleeping almost 12 hours each night. So much has changed in the last few months. It's amazing! Luke and I think that 6 months may be the perfect age - she is fun to hang out with, sleeps great, and isn't mobile!! What's not to like?

We went down to Ft. Morgan with my family for a few days after the Delta. It was good to go on a little vacation. It was the Bug's first beach experience, and she did beautifully! She slept all night, every night, and acted like a little angel most of the time. She even shopped at the outlet mall with her Nonna for hours with no complaining. She acts better than her mother...

The Delta

Luke's sweet grandmother - Rick Rick - passed away last week. We love her, and she will be missed! I am so glad that she got to meet Carter, and I know that she loved her. We headed to the Delta to say goodbye and be with family for a couple of days. On a lighter note, what is with the mosquitoes in the Delta? I have to hand it to you folks who live there - they put our NE Mississippi mosquitoes to shame, and I do not know how you stand it!!! I applied Off constantly while we were there - even in the car and inside. Sheesh...

Jackson Trip

We went to Jackson for a few nights this week to visit with Luke's family. It was Carter's first time to stay somewhere other than a grandparent's house. We stayed in a hotel, and I must say, she did beautifully. I hesitate to brag too much since we leave for the beach on Monday - don't want to jinx our trip. However, I was impressed with how well she adjusted to everything. It was a busy few days!!

Trips to Keifer's sure look a little different than they used to - no empty pitchers of beer! We did get to see our great friend Allison for about 30 seconds during her lunch hour. She was so sweet to bring the bug a cute gift!

I had to include this lovely Kulp family photo (minus two Kulp brothers). These don't happen very often, and I think it is hilarious. The windblown look isn't always a good thing...

I hate that I didn't get more pictures while we were there. I have to try and do better.

Now it is time to unpack everything, wash it, and repack it all in preparation for the beach. Good times...

12 Weeks

Carter is now officially sleeping in her bed at night. I'm not really sure why I kept her in the
pack-n-play in our room for so long. I guess in the very beginning I checked on her frequently during the night - now I can't remember the last time I did. I think she is more aware of her surroundings now so she was ejected from our room. We have not had any problems so far, and it was a much easier transition than I thought it would be.

We love the Noggin channel!! Carter has started paying more attention to the TV. I know lots of people think TV is not a good babysitter - ha, whatever. These folks probably don't have kids. She loves it, and it is somewhat educational I suppose. I am sure that knowing how to say "hello" in Chinese will serve her well some day...

I have been falling down on my job in the picture department lately. Two weeks and no pictures - I should be ashamed. She has been with her Nonna the last couple of nights - getting spoiled I am sure. We are leaving for the beach in a couple of weeks. I've been told that a trip to the beach with a baby is no trip to the beach. We'll see.

Carter will be 12 weeks old tomorrow. She's "talking" a lot more lately, hates tummy time (she may end up being the only adult on earth that can't roll from stomach to back), and sleeps through the night. She has an opinion about most things - and is not afraid to share it.

Carter had her first (brief) pool experience on the 4th of July. She didn't hate it, but she wasn't thrilled either. I guess she's still a little young... We did get some cute shots of her in her sun hat before though.

OK. Enough with the camera...

Seriously. I said enough!

10 Weeks

It's hard to believe that my child is 10 weeks old. Time must fly when you are sleep deprived. We had (she had) shots last week. It wasn't as bad as everyone said it would be. The nurse probably thinks Luke and I are mentally ill because we giggled the whole time. The fits she pitches on a daily basis are worse than what happened at the doctor's office, but anyway... All is well. She weighed in at a whopping 11 lbs., 2 oz. I was told to stop waking her up at 2:30am to feed her. In the beginning, doctors tell you not to let babies go over 5 hours without eating - what they don't tell you is when it is alright to let them go as long as they can without eating. The doctor looked at me like I had 3 eyes when I told her that I still wake her up to eat. Anyway, she has slept through the night since then: 10 or 10:30p to 7:30a when I wake her up for the day. So, I suppose I can't use the "sleep deprived" excuse anymore - for now at least. I am very thankful!!!

The Bug

Carter is affectionately known as the "Bug" to me and Luke. I'm not really sure where it came from, but I am pretty sure it is because I used to tell her to stop bugging! I realize that this is not a nickname that a little girl will appreciate, but since she can't complain (about that specifically), we'll stick with it. Please excuse my ridiculous voice on the video. She was being pretty cute so I thought I would share.

The Smile

I was beginning to think the "social" smile (as opposed to the "gas" smile) was an urban myth told to new mothers by veteran mothers so that they didn't lose their minds. It was like something rewarding to look forward to - kind of like a sucker after shots at the doctors office. I began to think that my child must not have had anything to smile about. What was with all of the seriousness all of the time? Could it really be so bad? Then we hit week 7 or 8 and she really turned on the charm! Here are some examples...

and we are back to being serious... I'll take the smiles - however fleeting they may be. It is worth it.

Apparently, week 5 was a slow week in the way of pictures. This pretty much sums it up. No, I do not let my child sleep in the bed with us - this was a nap. Sometimes, you have to do whatever to get some sleep, right?

The Last 8 Weeks

Eight weeks ago - April 22nd - I joined the "Bad Labor" Club, and Kathryn Carter Kulp was born. She weighed in at 6 lbs. 11oz; 19 inches long. The details of how she arrived aren't important. Here are some pictures from the day.
